SPECIES AT RISK ACT

Description of critical habitat of the Eastern Waterfan (Peltigera hydrothyria) in Fundy National Park of Canada

The Eastern Waterfan (Peltigera hydrothyria), a dark green or grey aquatic lichen with distinctive fan-shaped lobes that is deeply veined on its undersurface, is listed on Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act (SARA). In Canada, the Eastern Waterfan occurs only in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Quebec. It grows at or below water level in cool, clear, partially shaded streams.

The Recovery Strategy and Action Plan for the Eastern Waterfan (Peltigera hydrothyria) in Canada identifies critical habitat for the species in a number of areas, including within Fundy National Park of Canada.

Notice is hereby given, pursuant to subsection 58(2) of the Species at Risk Act, that 90 days after the date of publication of this notice, subsection 58(1) of the SARA will apply to the critical habitat of the Eastern Waterfan, identified in the Recovery Strategy and Action Plan for that species that is included in the Species at Risk Public Registry, and that is located within Fundy National Park of Canada, the boundaries of which are described in Schedule 1 to the Canada National Parks Act.
