TO ALL TO WHOM these presents shall come or whom the same may in any way concern,

GREETING:

A Proclamation

Whereas Canadians are concerned about gun violence and have a desire to ensure that their communities are safe;

Whereas gun violence has a devastating impact, both physically and psychologically, on victims, families and communities in Canada;

Whereas Canadians are looking to the Government of Canada to tackle the issue of gun violence and its impacts on victims, families and communities by further addressing those impacts and the underlying causes of gun violence;

Whereas it is important to increase awareness of firearm-related laws and regulations and the causes and risks that lead to gun violence;

Whereas this important work requires continued collaboration with victims, families, community members and governments in order to take a stand against gun violence;

And whereas, by Order in Council P.C. 2023-436 of May 12, 2023, the Governor in Council directed that a proclamation do issue requesting that the people of Canada observe the first Friday in June of every year as a National Day Against Gun Violence;

Now Know You that We, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council for Canada, do by this Our Proclamation request that the people of Canada observe the first Friday in June of every year as a National Day Against Gun Violence;

Of all which Our loving subjects and all others whom these presents may concern are required to take notice and to govern themselves accordingly.

In testimony whereof, We have caused this Our Proclamation to be published and the Great Seal of Canada to be affixed to it.

WITNESS:

Our Right Trusty and Well-beloved Mary May Simon, Chancellor and Principal Companion of Our Order of Canada, Chancellor and Commander of Our Order of Military Merit, Chancellor and Commander of Our Order and Merit of the Police Forces, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada.

AT OTTAWA, this fifteenth day of May in the year of Our Lord two thousand and twenty-three and in the first year of Our Reign.
