REGULATORY IMPACT ANALYSIS STATEMENT
(This statement is not part of the Order.)
Issues
The Indian Band Revenue Moneys Order (the Order) grants authority to the First Nations listed in the schedule to the Order over their revenue moneys in whole. The Office of the Indian Registrar has identified the names of 27 First Nations listed in the schedule to the Order who have officially changed their names in the Indian Registration System.
Objective
The amendments have the following objective:
- to update the Order to reflect the official names of First Nations.
Description and rationale
The Order Amending the Indian Band Revenue Moneys Order (Miscellaneous Program) updates the names of 27 First Nations to their official names as reflected in the Indian Registration System.
Amendments to the schedule are required to ensure consistency with the Indian Registration System, as well as to prevent confusion as to the applicability of the Order to a specific First Nation. Additionally, amending federal statutory instruments to reflect First Nations' current names is a respectful step consistent with a nation-to-nation relationship and reconciliation.
One-for-one rule and small business lens
The one-for-one rule does not apply to these amendments, as there is no change in administrative costs or burden to businesses.
The small business lens does not apply to these amendments, as there are no costs to small businesses.
